Oh, the hoorors!!! With my previous computer I lived in constant fear that it would go up in smoke taking my real life with it. I was going to also suggest an external hard drive. So sorry - that stinks big time. Dell is good and you can customize it online. I have a Dell laptop. I never backup - probably should. I do have a backup battery so if the power goes out the computer stays on for 20-30 minutes so I can shut it down. Good luck!!

what a bummer! I don't know if this info will help you or not as I don't know if your hard drive fried or not. But my computer crashed 2 years ago. I was very lucky as someone told me to remove the hard drive and put it in an external hard drive enclosure and hook it up to the new computer.
